ABOUT THE PARTNERS

The Partners of the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in cooperation with the United States Forest Service.

It is our mission . . .
To protect, conserve and enhance the natural resources and historic heritage of the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness area; To assist the Nantahala National Forest in developing, improving and maintaining facilities and resources such as trail, interpretive information sites and other support facilities, and maintaining and protecting heritage sites; To support educational, interpretive and research opportunities that increase the awareness, enjoyment and appreciation of the area; To support the Forest Service in caring for the land and serving the public.

2018 Bob Marshall Award

The Partners of the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness were selected by the US Forest Service to receive the 2018 Bob Marshall Award for Group Champion of Wilderness Stewardship. This is a national award recognizing our efforts to assist the Cheoah Ranger District in managing and preserving the Wilderness.

We want to publicly thank the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance, the Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards, the Wilderness Society and the men and women of the Cheoah Ranger District, USFS.

Annual Hill Climb

The Central Carolinas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (CCR-SCCA) will be hosting the Chasing The Dragon Hillclimb on Maple Springs Rd in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, just outside Robbinsville, NC. This annual event, held in the late Summer each year, draws competitors and spectators from across the country, testing their driving skills trying to “Tame the Dragon”. The 2024 event will take place in late July. Exact date TBA.
